Missions Photography

I have had the opportunity to go on a few missions trips in my life.  They have all been an eye opening experience and I have always been amazed at how little I knew about the culture's in which we found ourselves in.  Each city and people group stole my heart as they allowed us into their world if only for a week or so.

Each time I attempted to capture the essence of these far off lands and the interesting people that inhabited them with my lens.  Each time I wished the images could tell a story to those back home who rested comfortably in their homes watching their big screen TV's.  Each time I returned home to my comfortable surroundings with hundreds of images and no place to really show them, I had no megaphone or audience to tell my story to.

I wanted that platform, that soapbox if you will where I could share the images and the stories that accompanied them and people would pay attention.  So, I created Agony & Angels, a rag tag group of photographers who were available for media related missions.  A&A, and the website that accompanied it, were short lived.  We were too rag tag, there wasn't enough organization and there wasn't many people interested in media missions at that time.

Fast forward 5 years or so and I am meeting and hearing about a whole army of people interested in this type of missions work and I am intrigued.  I recently ran across this blog post written by Brian Hall and there are a number of others out there as well.

I propose that we create a Google group and begin discussing the possibilities of joining forces, pooling resources and creating a non profit where we not only can take requests from those looking to tell their story but also creating a platform to tell those stories.

If this is interesting to you please comment below with your email address and I will add you to the group list.

God Bless

The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown

My man Allan Branch issued a challenge.  Mano e Mano.  One guy and his bike against another guy and his bike.  It's simple really, who can bike the most miles per week.  Loser buys the winner lunch on Friday.

Last week I lost miserably, 50+ miles to my measly 1.6 miles and Allan had a shrimp salad to prove it.  This week will be different.  I don't like to lose and I don't like to buy my friends food.

If you read this blog and you call yourself my friend I will need your help.  Motivate me please!  Call me names like "sissy boy" and "pansy face" when you see me driving a motorized vehicle.  Punch me in the arm as hard as you can if you see me getting gas ... I will not press assualt charges ... I will tear up and give you a hug, because I will know you are a true friend.

Ride #1 today: 8.28 miles

Ride #2 family ride: 2.51 miles

Comcast's BIG Opportunity (or mistake)

Photo

It's hard for me to admit it but it's true, last night I watched a movie on Lifetime.  Well, I should say I attempted to anyway.  The film was about some guy who claimed to be a Rockefeller but was really a con man ripping off the family name.  You wouldn't know it if you watched past an hour because the channel went to black.  Twenty minutes later a flicker of hope and then it was back only this time, no sound.

I immediately jumped on twitter to see if this was a regional issue, it was not, the whole nation seemed to have gone to black.  And people were ticked and talking.

This was a fantastic opportunity for Comcast to use the Twitter social network to apologize to it's customers.  It had, after all, gone to black during a world premier of a movie they had been toting for a month plus.  They could have reminded folks that the channel would be playing the film, in it's entirety, immediately following this debacle.  They could have grabbed a hundred employees and personally apologized for screwing up people's evening, but as far as I know, they did nothing.

Every company makes mistakes, including ours, including yours.  The issue isn't whether you will make a mistake or not, it's how you handle it.  Don't be afraid to own it and apologize.  A simple apology will add to your comapanies perception of integrity, and more imporatantly, people will appreciate it.

You don't have to be perfect, but you do have to step up when it's time to stand.

I can't get over...

...how excited I am about this new little studio. We finally actually have a storefront! After many years and hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of hard work we have street level windows! Thank you God for this blessing! Now I just hope I can pay the rent!

Keep your eyes peeled for our grand opening party announcement, you won't want to miss it!
